Employer description

Waabi, founded by AI visionary Raquel Urtasun, is the leader in Physical AI. With a world-class team, we’re unlocking the next era of autonomous transportation with technology that’s powering commercial autonomous trucks and robotaxis. Waabi is backed by and partners with world leaders in AI, automotive, logistics, and deep tech.
With offices in Toronto, San Francisco, Dallas, and Pittsburgh, Waabi is growing quickly and looking for diverse, innovative and collaborative candidates who want to impact the world in a positive way. To learn more visit: www.waabi.ai

Waabi’s autonomous vehicles run on road-ready custom electronics. In this role, you’ll own that hardware from schematic to vehicle. You’ll design boards, work with our contract manufacturers to build them, bring them up in the lab, and prove they hold up in the real world. You will also be responsible for ensuring the quality of our designs by designing test fixtures and working on V&V efforts.

This is an onsite position to be based in Pittsburgh/SF with the expectations of 3-4 days onsite.
You Will…
Design & Test
Design PCBAs across high-speed, power, analog, and digital circuits
Translate OEM technical and non-functional requirements into board-level design decisions
Take modules from requirements through customer delivery
Develop new modules or features, weighing COTS versus custom hardware
Verify circuit designs with SPICE or equivalent
Own board bring-up at scale and direct technician work
Debug and solder at the component level using scopes, signal generators, DMMs, and other lab equipment
Support vehicle end-of-line testing by diagnosing board- and vehicle-level issues
Build module end-of-line test fixtures and load boxes with the design and V&V teams
Test designs under nominal and stressed electrical and environmental conditions
Support EMI/EMC testing and qualification
Manufacturing & Quality
Manage CM builds from fabrication through assembly, tracking schedules and flagging risks early
Scale hardware from low-volume prototypes to reliable high-volume production
Develop quality controls and in-process monitors with the quality team
Lead incoming inspection, rework, hand assembly, and enclosure integration with technicians
Ensure compliance with OEM partner and internal quality standards
Track components, boards, and assemblies: what’s on hand, in transit, and due for reorder
Collaboration & Process
Work closely with systems, firmware, mechanical, V&V, bring-up, and quality teams
Document procedures, test results, design revisions, and performance data for traceability
Define and improve internal processes and quality standards
Qualifications:
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or a related field
10+ years in hardware development.  Some experience with test engineering is beneficial
2–3+ years in a formal leadership role
Analog circuit design from first principles, including filtering, protection, and voltage/current sensing
Familiarity with ECAD tools (e.g. Altium, OrCAD, KiCAD)
Sound judgment on component and topology tradeoffs
Hands-on experience debugging circuit-level functionality
Experience partnering with CMs to deliver high-quality products
Ability to read schematics, board layouts, engineering drawings, and technical documentation
Familiarity with communication interfaces (e.g. CAN, Ethernet,  SPI, I2C, LIN, USB, UART, and JTAG/SWD)
Familiarity with automotive standards (e.g. ISO 26262, ISO 16750, AEC-Q)
Experience with firmware testing and debug, scripting, and embedded Linux
Comfortable switching between hands-on lab work and roadmap planning
Nice to have: automotive, robotics, or AV experience
