Employer description
About BaseBase is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.
About the RoleBase is hiring a Global Supply Manager to own our relationships with the contract manufacturers (CMs) who build our electromechanical top-level assemblies (TLAs). You’ll own the total delivered cost of the finished unit across every CM in our network. Nearly every other supply category at Base feeds into these assemblies, including plastics, harnesses, cells, board electricals, metals, and PCBA. That makes this a coordination-heavy role as we scale from 1 GW to 3 GW. You’ll work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and logistics on new and existing products.
What You’ll Do
Run RFQs end to end: scope requirements, evaluate bids, and drive supplier selection through award.
Build should-cost models to benchmark pricing, find cost-downs, and back up negotiations with data.
Negotiate piece price, tooling, payment terms, and master agreements, with contracts in place before work starts.
Own key supplier relationships: track performance, handle escalations, and build enough trust to move fast.
Set commodity strategy across a global supply base, balancing cost, supply continuity, and risk.
Get suppliers ready for production ramp and sustained manufacturing, covering capacity, lead times, and end-of-life.
Present clear recommendations on awards, cost, and risk to engineering and executive leadership.
What You’ll Bring
5+ years of strategic sourcing or procurement in hardware manufacturing.
Track record negotiating contracts and managing suppliers through escalations, including at the executive level.
Strong cost modeling and Excel skills.
Clear, direct written and verbal communication.
Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, about 30% of the time.
Preferred Skills
Experience sourcing top-level assemblies through CMs or electronics manufacturing services (EMS) providers in EV, energy storage, consumer electronics, or industrial hardware.
Fluency in CM labor cost structures, value-add negotiation, and rolling up total delivered cost across a multi-commodity BOM.
Experience negotiating MSAs, SOWs, NRE, and the cost of engineering changes.
Experience helping decide what to build in-house and what to leave with a CM.
Experience with MRP or ERP systems such as Odoo, SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite.
About the Team
Our supply chain team sources components, runs manufacturing operations, and builds the supplier partnerships we need to make the lowest-cost, highest-quality home batteries at scale. Homeowners across the country rely on Base for whole-home backup and lower electricity bills. Our network of home batteries also helps keep the grid stable as demand climbs from AI, electrification, and extreme weather. We build in-house and expand at a speed and cost incumbents can’t match, and this team makes that possible.
Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.
Our ValuesFirst Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.
Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.
Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.
Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.
Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.
Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.
Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
Do the best work of your life at Base.
