Employer description

About BaseBase is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the RoleWhen the grid goes down, Base members often don’t even notice: their lights stay on, and their bills go down. That’s what a modern power company feels like, and this team builds the platform and product that delivers it.

Getting a member to that moment means coordinating a physical installation: home photos, city permits, utility approval, an install crew, and a battery coming online, each on its own system and timeline and variation for each utility we enter. We’re already operating in three states, with plans to expand into several more in the coming months.

Our goal is one platform where launching a new market is mostly configuration, so we can scale efficiently and give every member a consistently great experience.

The Core Experience team owns that journey in software, from the first website visit to the app that shows backup and savings in real time. We’re hiring a full stack engineer to build the platform that powers our expansion and the product our members love.

What You’ll Do

Own the member journey end to end, from the first website visit to the moment a member checks the app during an outage

Build the discovery and checkout experience: accurate plans and pricing for every address, across products and markets

Build the activation experience: photo submission, a live status tracker and internal tools that keep members, our operators, utilities, and install crews on the same page

Turn live battery telemetry into clear in-app experiences, including real-time outage status, bills that explain themselves and battery performance

Ship across the full stack (database, API and UI) and define the metrics that tell us whether it worked

Partner with design, Growth, deployments and member support, and use support data to build self-serve into the product

What You’ll Bring

2+ years of experience building production software in product or full-stack engineering roles

Strong experience designing system architecture for complex web applications

Track record of owning products or platforms from concept through launch and iteration

Strong product judgment and a track record of turning ambiguous ideas into shipped, useful products.

Ability to work across the stack and collaborate closely with XFN teams

Ready to work with intensity and urgency, and to hold a high bar for your own output.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

Our ValuesFirst Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.

Do the best work of your life at Base.
