Employer description
Leidos is seeking a senior Test Engineer (Level 4) to serve as a lead member of a dynamic team supporting the SkyLine-X KN-2 program. This position leads the verification, validation, and qualification of advanced systems, focusing on testing methodologies and systems integration to evaluate Air Traffic Control (ATC) modernization initiatives. The selected candidate will design, implement, and maintain test frameworks and procedures in alignment with systems assurance, safety, and performance standards. The team leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to enhance test, and experience applying these approaches is highly valued.
Responsibilities:
Working both as a member of a team and independently, the successful candidate will:
· Integrate, configure, and validate SkyLine-X KN-2 capabilities within both physical and virtual integration laboratories.
· Execute system integration, verification, and validation activities to ensure the system is properly configured and operating within the National Airspace System.
· Support formal customer demonstrations, verification events, and customer acceptance testing with KN-2 stakeholders.
· Collaborate with software, systems engineering, networking, and infrastructure teams to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system-level issues.
· Analyze integration and test results, identify root causes, and provide detailed technical documentation supporting issue resolution.
· Support deployment and integration activities at customer operational facilities, including Air Traffic Control Towers (ATCTs).
· Execute system interface testing and validate communications across internal and external interfaces.
· Coordinate integration activities with customer personnel and cross-functional Leidos engineering teams.
· Develop automated tools, scripts, and AI-assisted solutions that improve testing efficiency, reduce manual effort, and streamline repetitive tasks.
· Support remote deployment activities by coordinating with infrastructure, networking, and installation teams.
· Learn and maintain a deep understanding of SkyLine-X architecture, system functionality, interfaces, and operational workflows.
· Partner with Systems Engineering to develop integration and test strategies for new capabilities and system enhancements.
· Integrate services with databases, messaging systems, and external APIs.
· Troubleshoot networking issues, IP configurations, and interface connectivity.
· Demonstrate system capabilities during formal “run-for-record” events supporting customer acceptance and release readiness.
· Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior integration engineers while helping ensure program milestones are successfully achieved.
· Serve as a technical lead for systems and software integration in support of Development Test (DT) and Formal Test execution on the SkyLine-X KN-2 program.
· Integrate complex systems and software with minimal oversight, and debug system-level issues while providing detailed supporting data on identified issues.
· Develop and maintain test approach and procedures derived from system-level requirements (A-Level, SSS), including system-level and component-level test procedures, test cases, and data sets.
· Conduct root cause analysis and defect resolution in coordination with software and systems engineering teams.
· Execute integration testing of distributed, safety-critical systems using containerized or virtualized environments (e.g., Docker, Podman), and manage VMs and dev containers.
· Develop and maintain test artifacts and documentation, including the Verification Requirements Test Matrix (VRTM), traceability matrices, and test reports.
· Interface with SkyLine-X software, systems engineering, and integration/logistics teams in support of installation and integration efforts.
· Clearly communicate and generate briefings to report status to both internal and customer stakeholders, and support test readiness reviews and system qualification events.
· Actively participate in daily stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Release Planning, and other Agile team activities.
· Work overtime, off hours, or weekends if necessary to meet deadlines, and be able to support travel.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience, or 6+ years with a related Master’s degree. Equivalent experience may be considered.
· Experience integrating and testing large-scale, distributed software systems.
· Strong Linux/UNIX administration and troubleshooting experience.
· Experience with Python, Bash, or Shell scripting for automation and data analysis.
· Experience troubleshooting network configurations, connectivity, and distributed system interfaces.
· Experience developing automation solutions that improve engineering efficiency.
· Experience developing automation solutions that improve engineering efficiency. The engineer should have working knowledge of test automation, including the use of automated test frameworks and scripts (e.g., Squish, Selenium, PyTest, Robot Framework) to run repeatable tests. A general familiarity with integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support regression coverage is helpful.
· The team uses Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques to help enhance test automation, such as assisting with test case generation or flagging anomalies in results. Some familiarity with these AI-assisted testing approaches and Claude Code is a plus, though not required.
· Demonstrated experience in testing, test framework development, and system-level verification of complex or safety-critical systems.
· Systems Engineering experience, including proven experience working on complex projects gathering user requirements and converting them into system requirements.
· Proficiency with scripting languages.
· Experience with Linux or Unix-based environments, containerization (Docker, Podman), and CI/CD pipelines.
· Technical leadership experience in a role requiring significant coordination across multiple functional areas (e.g., Software, Hardware, Systems Engineering).
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience working directly with customers to discuss requirements and objectives.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Desired Skills:
· Experience integrating mission-critical or highly available systems.
· Air Traffic Management domain experience.
· Familiarity with requirement decomposition to develop A-Level test approach and procedures.
· Familiarity with the Atlassian Tool Suite and JIRA.
· Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and system integration V&V processes.
· Knowledge of microservices architectures, message brokers, RESTful API testing, and Chaos Testing principles.
· Knowledge of test tools (e.g., Selenium, Sikuli, Squish) and simulation or test-harness frameworks.
· Familiarity with NextGen Air Traffic Control modernization programs.
· Experience preparing and executing Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM) and Test Readiness Review (TRR) documentation.
