Employer description

Leidos is seeking a senior Test Engineer (Level 3) to serve as a lead member of a dynamic team supporting the SkyLine-X KN-2 program. This position leads the verification, validation, and qualification of advanced systems, focusing on testing methodologies and systems integration to evaluate Air Traffic Control (ATC) modernization initiatives. The selected candidate will design, implement, and maintain test frameworks and procedures in alignment with systems assurance, safety, and performance standards. The team leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to enhance test, and experience applying these approaches is highly valued.

Responsibilities:

Working both as a member of a team and independently, the successful candidate will:

·       Serve as a technical lead for systems and software integration in support of Development Test (DT) and Formal Test execution on the SkyLine-X KN-2 program.

·       Lead the design, development, and maintenance of test frameworks for the verification and validation (V&V) of complex, safety-critical systems.

·       Integrate complex systems and software with minimal oversight, and debug system-level issues while providing detailed supporting data on identified issues.

·       Develop and maintain test approach and procedures derived from system-level requirements (A-Level, SSS), including system-level and component-level test procedures, test cases, and data sets.

·       Conduct root cause analysis and defect resolution in coordination with software and systems engineering teams.

·       Execute integration testing of distributed, safety-critical systems using containerized or virtualized environments (e.g., Docker, Podman), and manage VMs and dev containers.

·       Develop and maintain test artifacts and documentation, including the Verification Requirements Test Matrix (VRTM), traceability matrices, and test reports.

·       Interface with SkyLine-X KN-2 software, systems engineering, and integration/logistics teams in support of installation and integration efforts.

·       Clearly communicate and generate briefings to report status to both internal and customer stakeholders, and support test readiness reviews and system qualification events.

·       Actively participate in daily stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Release Planning, and other Agile team activities.

·       Work overtime, off hours, or weekends if necessary to meet deadlines, and be able to support travel.

Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 8+ years of professional experience.

·       The engineer should have working knowledge of test automation, including the use of automated test frameworks and scripts (e.g., Squish, Selenium, PyTest, Robot Framework) to run repeatable tests. A general familiarity with integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support regression coverage is helpful.

·       The team uses Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques to help enhance test automation, such as assisting with test case generation or flagging anomalies in results. Some familiarity with these AI-assisted testing approaches and Claude Code is a plus, though not required.

·       Demonstrated experience in testing, test framework development, and system-level verification of complex or safety-critical systems.

·       Systems Engineering experience, including proven experience working on complex projects gathering user requirements and converting them into system requirements.

·       Proficiency with scripting languages.

·       Experience with Linux or Unix-based environments, containerization (Docker, Podman), and CI/CD pipelines.

·       Technical leadership experience in a role requiring significant coordination across multiple functional areas (e.g., Software, Hardware, Systems Engineering).

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience working directly with customers to discuss requirements and objectives.

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Desired Skills:

·       Familiarity with requirement decomposition to develop A-Level test approach and procedures.

·       Familiarity with the Atlassian Tool Suite and JIRA.

·       Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and system integration V&V processes.

·       Knowledge of microservices architectures, message brokers, RESTful API testing, and Chaos Testing principles.

·       Knowledge of test tools (e.g., Selenium, Sikuli, Squish) and simulation or test-harness frameworks.

·       Familiarity with NextGen Air Traffic Control modernization programs.

·       Experience preparing and executing Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM) and Test Readiness Review (TRR) documentation.
