Employer description
The future of aerospace and defense starts here.
Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands.
Modern aerospace and defense systems rely on highly integrated avionics to provide command and control, guidance, navigation, communications, power distribution, and mission processing. As an Electrical Engineering intern, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team to design, develop, integrate, and qualify mission-critical avionics hardware supporting advanced missile and defense systems.
In this role, you will support the design and development of high-reliability mixed-signal electronic assemblies, including processor and FPGA-based circuit cards, power electronics, digital communications interfaces, and hardware supporting embedded software. You will have the opportunity to contribute throughout the product lifecycle—from requirements development and architecture through design, integration, verification, qualification, and transition to production—while working closely with experienced engineers and gaining hands-on experience with real-world aerospace and defense hardware.
Responsibilities:
- Work alongside other electrical engineers to develop digital or analog/mixed-signal designs; including requirements definition, design, development, electrical check-out/test, qualification and release to production.
- Support avionics architecture trade studies, analyses, performance characterization, specification, and device selection.
- Perform portions of de-rating analysis, worst case circuit analysis, FMECA, and system reliability analysis.
- Develop avionics interfaces between components.
- Support definition and implementation of hardware to software interfaces to implement control laws and automated test functions.
- Support risk analyses, design for test or manufacturability, and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies.
Requirements Qualifications:
- 3 yrs of college-level courses in Electrical Engineering
- Understanding of digital and mixed-signal circuit design, analysis, and test.
Desired Experience
- Hands-on experience with schematic capture and layout tools (Altium, Zuken, Xpedition or equivalent)
- Hands-on experience with ASIC/FPGA design tools
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and testing analog or digital circuits in a lab.
- Hands-on experience with electrical lab equipment (power supplies, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, etc.)
- Proficiency with scripting; programming and analysis/modeling tools: Python, Linux/Windows shell scripting; assembly language, C, C++; MATLAB / Simulink / SPICE (or similar)
- A desire to design mission critical hardware for flight or space applications
Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $30.00/hour, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. What we can’t quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
