Employer description
Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world’s most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.
We’re in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We’re solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.
We’re looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.
If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.
About the Role:
Crusoe is building the infrastructure that powers the AI revolution. As our global footprint expands across data centers, power generation, manufacturing, construction sites, and corporate offices — and as the visibility of our executives and the stakes of our operations continue to rise — the ability to protect our people wherever the business takes them is increasingly critical.
The Senior Manager, Protective Operations will lead Crusoe’s executive protection and protective operations programs globally, providing risk-based protection for executives, employees, travelers, and company operations. You will serve as the company’s subject matter expert for executive protection, travel risk, protective intelligence, threat management, and sensitive security investigations.
This role will join Crusoe’s growing Physical Security organization at a formative moment. You will shape the standards, protocols, vendor network, and operating rhythm that supports Crusoe’s expanding global footprint — working closely with the GSOC, the Senior Physical Security Intelligence Analyst, People, Legal, Communications, Information Security, Facilities, and business leaders to identify risk and translate intelligence into effective protective measures.
The ideal candidate brings experience from U.S. Secret Service, Diplomatic Security Service, high-end executive protection, special operations, or protective details at the national or diplomatic level, and has translated that tradecraft into corporate Protective Operations leadership. You know how to protect people without unnecessarily disrupting the business, and you know how to lead a program that scales.
What You’ll Be Working On:
Executive Protection Program Leadership
Lead Crusoe’s global Executive Protection program, including executive travel, residential considerations, ground transportation, advance work, event coverage, and protective operations
Develop risk-based protection strategies based on threat, exposure, location, activity, and other relevant factors rather than title alone
Lead security planning for executive appearances, media engagements, conferences, town halls, board activities, major company events, and other high-profile engagements
Establish and maintain the standards, protocols, and tradecraft discipline expected of a world-class corporate protection program
Travel Risk Management
Own the Travel Risk Management program, establishing processes for pre-travel risk assessment, traveler briefings, high-risk travel, escalation, emergency support, and traveler assistance
Conduct advance work and security assessments for domestic and international travel, including hotels, venues, transportation, routes, medical capabilities, and contingency planning
Build the duty-of-care framework and escalation procedures that protect Crusoe travelers wherever the business sends them
Protective Intelligence Partnership
Partner closely with the Senior Physical Security Intelligence Analyst and the GSOC to translate protective intelligence into protective action — movement planning, principal protection decisions, advance planning, and threat response
Shape the intelligence requirements and collection priorities that support protective operations
Operationalize protective intelligence products into daily decisions, travel decisions, and event planning
Threat Assessment and Management
Establish and support threat assessment and management processes for workplace violence, threatening communications, stalking, harassment, fixated individuals, concerning behavior, and other potential threats
Partner with HR, Employee Relations, Legal, and the Intelligence Analyst on threat cases requiring coordinated response and protective action
Apply structured behavioral threat assessment methodologies to differentiate legitimate threats from noise
Sensitive Security Investigations
Lead or support sensitive security investigations involving threats, theft, misconduct, unauthorized access, insider risk, security incidents, and suspected fraud in partnership with Legal, People, Internal Audit, Information Security, and other stakeholders
Support elevated-risk employee matters, including sensitive terminations, credible threats, domestic violence concerns affecting the workplace, and other situations requiring additional protective measures
Maintain investigative discipline, chain of custody, and reporting standards appropriate to the sensitivity of each matter
Site and Geographic Risk Assessment
Conduct geographic and site security risk assessments in support of new markets, potential company locations, major projects, and business expansion
Evaluate country, city, neighborhood, and site-level risks including crime, political instability, civil unrest, terrorism, emergency response, medical capabilities, transportation, natural hazards, and other relevant threats
Produce assessments that inform executive travel, site selection, event planning, and business expansion decisions
Program Development and Vendor Management
Develop protective operations plans, standards, protocols, and escalation procedures that scale across a growing global organization
Select, manage, and evaluate executive protection, secure transportation, travel security, investigative, and other specialized security vendors globally
Grow the vendor network — domestic and international — required to extend Crusoe’s protective capabilities wherever the business operates
Support budget development, forecasting, and financial management for protective operations programs and vendors
Operational Partnership
Coordinate closely with the GSOC during executive travel, elevated-risk events, emerging threats, and critical incidents
Establish relationships with law enforcement, government agencies, security partners, and other external organizations relevant to protective operations
Support crisis and incident response involving executives, employees, travelers, threats, or other security events
Program Measurement and Maturity
Develop metrics and reporting to measure program effectiveness, emerging risks, protective activity, and opportunities for improvement
Help mature the Protective Operations function as Crusoe’s global footprint and risk profile continue to evolve
Maintain discretion and sound judgment when handling highly sensitive executive, employee, investigative, and company information
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
10+ years of experience in executive protection, corporate security, protective intelligence, law enforcement, military protective operations, diplomatic security, or a related field
5+ years leading complex executive protection, protective operations, or corporate security programs
Demonstrated experience protecting senior executives and supporting domestic and international travel
Strong experience conducting advances, threat assessments, security risk assessments, and protective planning
Experience developing and managing executive protection programs in a corporate environment strongly preferred
Knowledge of protective intelligence, behavioral threat assessment, workplace violence prevention, and threat management principles
Experience conducting or managing sensitive corporate or security investigations
Understanding of travel risk management, including international security environments, traveler risk assessment, emergency response, and duty-of-care considerations
Experience planning security for media engagements, executive appearances, major events, and other high-profile activities
Ability to assess rapidly evolving situations, make sound risk-based decisions, and operate effectively with incomplete information
Demonstrated ability to work with senior executives while maintaining discretion, professionalism, adaptability, and confidentiality
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate risk and recommendations to executives and business leaders
Experience managing specialized security vendors, executive protection providers, secure transportation providers, and other external partners
Ability to collaborate effectively across Legal, People, Communications, Information Security, Facilities, Operations, and other business functions
Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 30–50%, with periods of increased travel based on operational requirements
Ability to respond outside normal business hours when significant protective or security situations require support
Bonus Points
Prior service with U.S. Secret Service, Diplomatic Security Service, FBI, DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, or an equivalent federal protective agency
Military special operations background with protective detail experience (SOF, MARSOC, Naval Special Warfare, Air Force Special Tactics, or equivalent)
Prior corporate executive protection leadership experience within technology, critical infrastructure, data centers, energy, manufacturing, or another rapidly growing global organization
Experience leading principal-level protective details for Fortune 500 CEOs, founders, or high-net-worth principals
Experience developing enterprise Travel Risk Management or Workplace Violence Prevention programs
Experience conducting protective intelligence and open-source threat research
Experience supporting international operations and higher-risk travel environments, including gray and amber travel zones
Experience working with law enforcement, intelligence, diplomatic, or government security organizations
Familiarity with intelligence, case management, mass notification, travel risk, and security operations platforms (Ontic, Dataminr, Everbridge, International SOS, Crisis24, or peer tools)
CPP, PSP, PCI, Certified Threat Manager (CTM), ATAP certifications, or other relevant professional credentials
Multilingual capability, particularly in languages supporting Crusoe’s international footprint
Operating Conditions:San Francisco or Denver on-site, with domestic and international travel of approximately 30–50% to support executive protection, advance work, high-risk travel, site assessments, and major events
On-call availability for executive travel windows, elevated-risk events, emerging threats, and critical incidents
Response outside normal business hours when significant protective or security situations require support
Occasional nights, weekends, and holidays as the operational tempo demands
Handling of sensitive, confidential, and executive-protection information with appropriate discretion is a core expectation of the role
What Success Looks Like:Success in this role means Crusoe has a proactive, intelligence-led, and risk-based protective operations program capable of supporting executives and employees wherever the business operates.
You will lead a program that identifies threats early, provides executives and travelers with appropriate protection without unnecessarily disrupting business, responds effectively to sensitive incidents, and scales as Crusoe expands into new markets and operating environments.
