Employer description

Join the team bringing advanced autonomy to the built worldAt Bedrock, we’re moving AI out of the lab and into the real world. Our team includes veterans who helped launch Waymo, scaled Segment to a $3.2B acquisition, and grew Uber Freight to $5B in revenue. Today, we’re deploying autonomous systems on heavy construction equipment across the country, improving safety on job sites and accelerating schedules on critical infrastructure projects.

We’re not here debating the future of AI. We’re deploying it in the real world. In just two years, we’ve raised $350M and achieved the first fully autonomous excavator deployments in construction.

This is where algorithms meet steel-toed boots. You’ll work alongside construction veterans and world-class engineers to solve physical-world problems that simulations can’t touch. If you’re ready to do meaningful work on hard problems, we’d love to have you join us.

ABOUT THE ROLEAs we scale, every person who works with our machines needs to be trained, qualified, and confident. We’re hiring our first Bedrock Training & Certification Lead to build that capability from the ground up.

You will own how people learn to work safely and productively with Bedrock’s autonomous system. That covers two audiences: internal teams (field operations, site operators, technicians, remote assistants, and new hires) and external partners (contractor and service crews, supervisors, and equipment operators who run our system on their job sites).

Your biggest build is a “certified” Bedrock University program: a structured certification program that qualifies operators to run Bedrock’s autonomous systems, and that becomes a recognized credential in the construction industry. You’ll set the strategy and work closely with Operations, Safety, Engineering, and Product among others.

WHAT YOU’LL DOStrategy & Team Leadership

Set the vision, roadmap, and success metrics for learning and development across Bedrock

Design and develop the best approach to instruction design, technical training, field instruction, and technical writing.

Own the L&D budget, resourcing plan, and vendor and contractor relationships

Partner with Operations, Safety, Engineering, and Product leaders to anticipate training needs as the product and footprint grow

Internal Training Programs

Design onboarding and role-based learning paths for field operations, site operators, remote assistants, and technicians

Build hands-on technical curriculum for autonomous heavy equipment: system setup, task planning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and safe intervention

Turn software releases, new machine capabilities, and SOP changes into training updates quickly

Introduce leadership and manager development as the company scales

Partner Training & Bedrock Certified

Design and launch Bedrock Certified, a certification program that qualifies partner operators and supervisors to run Bedrock autonomous systems

Define certification standards: prerequisites, curriculum (safety, system operation, site setup, plan interpretation, troubleshooting), field assessments, and recertification

Build train-the-trainer programs so certified partner leads can qualify their own crews

Make sure partner teams are trained and certified before and after each site launch

Safety, Quality & Measurement

Embed safety-critical practices, OSHA requirements, and Bedrock SOPs in every program

Keep training materials and SOPs accurate and under version control

Decide on the best method to track learning qualifications and recertification timelines, including enrollments, qualification records, and reporting

Track competency, certification status, time-to-productivity, and safety outcomes, and use the data to improve programs

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKEBedrock Certified is launched, with the first partner operators certified and a repeatable path to scale it across sites

Every internal field team member and partner crew is qualified before they operate Bedrock systems

New hires and partner crews reach independent, productive operation faster

Training keeps pace with product releases, so no crew runs on outdated procedures

Partners see Bedrock training as best in class, and certification becomes a credential operators seek out

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FORRequired

3-5 years in learning and development or technical training, including experience leading a training function with people and budget responsibility

Experience building technical training for safety-critical or regulated operations, such as heavy equipment, construction, industrial, transportation, or robotics

A track record of designing and running certification or qualification programs that determine who is allowed to do the work

Experience building train-the-trainer programs and managing external training partners or vendors

Strong command of instructional design, adult learning principles, and assessing competency

Hands-on learning management administration and reporting experience, with a data-driven approach to measuring results

Ability to influence senior leaders and work across Operations, Safety, Engineering, and Product

Willingness to travel 30%+ to job sites and training locations

Preferred

Background in construction, heavy civil, or heavy equipment operations, and knowledge of OSHA regulations

Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, or advanced construction technology

Experience building customer- or partner-facing training, including programs that generate revenue

Experience building an L&D function at a hyper-growth startup

Leadership development and coaching experience

Familiarity with LMS systems and approaches

Familiarity with simulation, video, or AR/VR training tools

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERSAutonomy only changes construction if the people around the machines know how to use it safely and well. You’ll decide how Bedrock trains its own teams and its partners, and you’ll create the credential that defines a qualified autonomous equipment operator. Your work will directly shape how fast Bedrock can scale to new sites and how safely those sites run.
