The Lockheed Martin Artificial Intelligence Center (LAIC) is seeking an experienced Data Platform Engineer to support the AI Factory team and product portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Kubernetes and database administration, and will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our data platform, including data pipelines. You will work closely with our engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of our data systems with our applications and services.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, build, and maintain our data platform, including data pipelinesDevelop and implement Kubernetes-based data infrastructure, including deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applicationsAdminister and optimize databases, including relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB)Develop and maintain data pipelines and maintain highly available vector databases, such as WeaviateCollaborate with engineering teams to integrate data systems with applications and servicesEnsure data security, compliance, and governance, including data encryption, access control, and auditingMonitor and optimize data platform performance, including latency, throughput, and resource utilizationDevelop and maintain documentation, including architecture diagrams, technical guides, and operational runbooks 

Responsible for development of IT solutions across all components of software systems through design, integration, implementation and support. Proficient in infrastructure, security, software development, database management systems, and systems integration. Develops using agile processes and common technology stacks.

Basic Qualifications
5+ years of experience in data platform engineering, with a focus on Kubernetes and database engineeringStrong experience with containerized applicationsStrong understanding of data pipelines or data storage (ex. data ingestion, processing, and storage)Strong programming skills or software development in languages such as Python, Java, or GoLangExperience with development methodologies and version control systems such as GitDesired Skills
Experience with database administration, including high availability PostgreSQL architectureExperience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELKFamiliarity with patterns behind event-based observability systems, including queuing, batching, persistence, retries, and event replayFamiliarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, GCP Cloud SQL).Familiarity with logging and monitoring best practices for databases and applications.Familiarity with vector databases, such as Weaviate, Milvus, or ChromaDBCreative and resourceful when it comes to problem-solvingA passionate can-do attitude. GeoZone Definition: GeoZones are geographic groupings created by Lockheed Martin to align compensation ranges with regional labor markets and cost-of-labor differences across the United States. Locations are assigned a Geo Zone based on the primary work location of the role.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
