Employer description

Join the team bringing autonomy to the built world
At Bedrock, we’re moving AI out of the lab and onto real job sites. Our team includes veterans who helped launch Waymo, scaled Segment to a $3.2B acquisition, and grew Uber Freight to $5B in revenue. We retrofit the heavy equipment contractors already own, starting with excavators, so experienced crews can safely take on more projects and deliver them more predictably.

In August 2026, Bedrock-equipped excavators began doing fully autonomous, paid work on live commercial job sites. We’ve more than doubled our customer base since 2025, and our machines now work with contractors across the West, South, and Midwest.

In October 2026, we raised a $600M Series C co-led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital, bringing our total funding to nearly $1B. We’re using it to put more autonomous machines to work, build the field and operations teams behind every deployment, and expand into new machine types and job-site tasks.

This is where algorithms meet steel-toed boots. You’ll work alongside construction veterans and world-class engineers to solve physical-world problems that simulations can’t touch. If you’re ready to do meaningful work on hard problems, we’d love to have you join us.

About the RoleAs a Hardware Engineer on the Autonomy Platforms team you will architect, source, build, and bring to life the key hardware systems that enable autonomy on our machines. You will work with a wide range of engineering teams within Bedrock (product, commercial, perception, behavior, controls, platform integration, supply chain, and more) to drive consensus on critical HW system functionality and decomposition. You will work alongside other HW engineers to bring about these components, ensuring the platform meets our high performance bars and works reliably in the harsh environments that we deploy into.

What You’ll DoThe candidate will be responsible for designing, characterizing, integrating, and validating bedrock autonomy hardware.

Help define system and component level HW architecture for autonomous machines

Establish and lead relationships and programs with external vendors to deliver critical components and systems for our autonomous HW platforms

Work with other HW platform engineers to bring together a cohesive and high performance system that is flexible and modular

Work with safety team to establish requirements and performance metrics for components and systems

Write reusable, high quality, data analysis and test automation software (Python and/or C++/C/Rust)

What We’re Looking ForRequired:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field

Hands on experience with design and testing of autonomy HW such as sensing, compute, HMI, connectivity, and machine control interfaces

Strong foundational knowledge in traditional HW engineering subjects such as electrical design, high and low speed communication protocols, power electronics, bring-up and testing, and deployment of hardware systems in rugged outdoor environments

Experience leading large HW development programs from ideation through proto, EVT, DVT, and production stages

Experience with some of the following:

High performance/power edge compute including multi-CPU platforms (x86, ARM) with significant GPU resources, including experience around power and cooling (air/liquid)

Common autonomous sensing technologies including lidar (spinning, flash), camera (visible, SWIR, NIR, etc…), radar, RTK GNSS, and IMU

Remote operator stations including ergonomic human interfaces, low latency information display, and safety critical design

HMI deployment in rugged (high shock/vibe and temp) environments including screens and/or tablets

Packaging and integration strategies for high performance HW systems in rugged environments including high shock/vibe, wide temp ranges, IP, and solar loading

High speed signaling including GSML, multi gigabit ethernet, RF

Proficiency in compiled (C/C++/Rust), shell (linux bash), or runtime (Python) languages with ability to prototype and debug software components of HW systems as well as run tests, data collection, analysis, and reporting

Preferred:

6+ years of relevant industry experience preferred

Heavy machinery hydraulic systems including electronic control

High performance embedded compute, in particular Nvidia Jetson lineup

High and low speed communication protocols (GMSL, FPDlink, PCIe, multi GigE, A2B, CAN, UART, SPI, RS232/422/485, etc…)

Experience with system engineering requirements definition and V&V

High power LED lighting for scene illumination

Experience with common standards for HW deployment in construction

ISO26262, ISO16750, SAE J1455, etc…

Familiarity with large commercial construction equipment basic machine electrical and mechanical HW and interface
