Employer description
Fellowship Term: January-April 2027
Commitment: Part-time (20 hrs/week) or Full-time (40 hrs/week), with ability to flex schedule into the early evening after office hours
About Formlabs:
A 3D printer is one of the most demanding machines you can build.
Lasers, optics, precision motion, thermals, airflow, materials handling, chemistry, sensing, controls, and software all have to work at micron-scale precision, for thousands of layers, with almost no tolerance for error. Making that work reliably is an extraordinary engineering problem.
That’s what we do.
At Formlabs, we’re building 3D printers that are changing the way things get made. We have the smartest minds across every engineering discipline, and the technology they’re building is deployed at more than 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA.
If you’re energized by the idea of enabling employees to bring their (seemingly impossible) ideas to life, come join us as a Makerspace Fellow.
The Job
- Maintain printers and tools in Community SLA printing spaces: routine cleaning, inspections, tank and cartridge swaps, and first-line troubleshooting.
- Keep the Community SLA Print Farm and Makerspace stocked, safe, and organized (resin, consumables, PPE, IPA and waste handling, hand and power tools).
- Print parts for the Workplace Experience and Recruiting teams, from internal event pieces to giveaways for career fairs and candidate events.
- Design and maintain the signage, workflows, and documentation that guide any employee to print independently.
- Host office hours and intro sessions for first-time printers.
- Find ways to improve how the equipment and workspaces are set up for making.
- Update the Fellow handbook as you go, so the next Fellow starts stronger than you did.
- Spend 2-4 hours per week working on a personal design or engineering project that showcases a unique or technically complex use of Formlabs hardware, software, and/or materials.
You:
- A hands-on maker: you’ve built, fixed, or printed something because you wanted to see it exist.
- Organized and reliable; you can own a recurring checklist and keep it current.
- Comfortable helping people across a wide range of technical backgrounds, from engineers to recruiters.
- Self-directed with minimal supervision, and quick to ask for help when you get stuck.
- 3D printing experience with any technology (SLA or SLS a plus).
- Current undergraduate student.
Bonus Skills (Optional):
- CAD experience (Fusion, Onshape, SolidWorks, Blender, etc.)
- Experience in a makerspace, fab lab, school shop, or customer-facing role
- Graphic design or content creation (signage, social)
Fellow Benefits & Perks:
- Flexible schedule built around your classes
- Dedicated personal project time, plus materials
- Ample on-site parking & pre-tax commuter benefits
- Catered on-site lunches (3x per week), snacks, beverages, & treats
- Cohort-based social and professional development experience
- Many opt-in culture events across our diverse community
- And of course… unlimited 3D prints
