Employer description
Job Description SummaryThe Advanced Product Development (APD) Program Control team is executing a CAT1 New Product Introduction (NPI) that will deliver a fully qualified military propulsion system to meet critical warfighter needs. This program will take an advanced engine concept through development, vehicle integration, testing, and qualification—ultimately delivering a combat-ready propulsion system on an aggressive schedule with disciplined cost control. Success requires seamless coordination across multiple GE organizations, suppliers, and DoD customers.
This is a high-stakes execution challenge: aggressive timelines, stringent customer requirements, multiple stakeholder organizations, and constant visibility from both Customer and GE Leadership teams. The Program Control Sr. Staff Engineer, in conjunction with the Program Management Organization (PMO), will be the driver of program execution— Ensuring execution of the Integrated Master Schedule (MS), driving Earned Value Management (EVM) performance, developing customer-facing metrics that tell the program story, and ensuring technical work translates into schedule progress and cost performance.
Your primary mission is integration and visibility. You’ll coordinate through engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, test, and finance organizations to ensure alignment and execution to the plan. You’ll own the engineering program baseline, proactively identify risks and opportunities, and provide leadership with the situational awareness needed for real-time decision-making. This will entail working closely with the Digital Engineering Ecosystem (DEE) team to develop dashboards and data pipelines that turn program data into actionable insights.
This role requires mastery of DoD program management disciplines—EVM, IMS development, risk management, and customer reporting. You must be fluent in both technical engineering and business operations, able to translate between customer requirements, engineering execution, and financial performance. Strong communication skills are essential: you’ll brief senior leadership, engage directly with DoD customers, and influence teams across the enterprise to drive coordinated execution.
Job DescriptionRoles and Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) in coordination with the PMO to ensure critical schedule milestones are identified, properly sequenced, and resourced. Work with functional teams to establish realistic task durations, identify critical path activities, and ensure schedule logic reflects program dependencies across engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, test, and integration activities.Execute Earned Value Management (EVM) and drive cost/schedule performance across the entire program. Monitor cost performance index (CPI) and schedule performance index (SPI), analyze variance trends, identify root causes of performance deviations, and work with functional managers to implement corrective actions. Prepare EVM reports and analyses for internal leadership and customer reviews.Develop and deliver customer metrics and program status reporting that provide clear, accurate visibility into program health, accomplishments, and challenges. Tailor reporting products to customer requirements, translate technical progress into schedule and cost performance narratives, and support program reviews and milestone decision briefings with data-driven insights.Manage program schedule and cost risk and opportunity identification by working with technical teams to quantify threats and opportunities across all program elements.Coordinate program integration across multiple organizations including engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, test, finance, and external suppliers. Ensure alignment on program objectives, facilitate cross-functional problem-solving, and drive coordinated execution to prevent organizational boundaries from becoming program barriers.Support program baseline management by maintaining control of the program’s cost, schedule, and technical baselines. Coordinate baseline change requests, assess impacts to program performance, support change board activities, and ensure all stakeholders are executing to the current approved baseline.Develop program dashboards and analytics in partnership with the DEE team to enable real-time situational awareness for leadership and customer stakeholders. Define key performance indicators, design visualization approaches that tell the program story, and leverage digital tools to transform raw program data into actionable insights that support proactive decision-making.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics from an accredited college or university (or high school diploma/GED and at least 9 years of engineering experience)Minimum of 5 years of engineering experienceDue to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship.
