Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for an early-career Mechanical Drafter who enjoys turning engineering concepts and designer markups into accurate, fabrication-ready drawings. You have a solid foundation in mechanical drafting, are comfortable in AutoCAD and SolidWorks, and take pride in clean, consistent drawing packages.
Whether you are a recent graduate of a drafting or technical program or have built your CAD skills on the job, you are detail-oriented, curious and eager to learn from experienced designers and engineers. You understand that the drawings you produce are what our fabricators build from.
This is an opportunity to work on custom equipment, skid-mounted and modular systems, and industrial process equipment, and to grow toward a mechanical or piping designer role.
This position is based onsite in Rochester and/or Rush, NY, with occasional travel to customer and supplier locations.
What You Get To Do
- Create detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, and assembly documentation using CAD software.
- Support the design of mechanical components, custom equipment, piping layouts, and industrial systems.
- Work alongside experienced designers and engineers to turn technical concepts into accurate, fabrication-ready drawings.
- Develop and update bills of materials (BOMs), drawing packages, and engineering documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and fabrication teams to ensure designs meet project requirements.
- Assist with design changes, drawing revisions, and troubleshooting during equipment fabrication and assembly.
- Participate in design reviews and learn industry standards for drafting, dimensioning, and manufacturing.
- Contribute to improvements in drafting processes, design tools, and documentation standards.
What You Bring To The Team
Required
- 2+ years of mechanical drafting or CAD experience, OR an associate degree, bachelor's degree or technical certificate in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology or a related field.
- Foundational experience with 2D or 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or similar programs through education, training, or professional experience.
- Ability to read, interpret, and create basic mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work collaboratively, take direction from senior designers and engineers, and manage assigned tasks.
- Ability to take direction from designers and engineers and manage assigned tasks to deadline.
- Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work onsite in Rochester and/or Rush, NY, with occasional travel.
Preferred
- Internship, co-op or professional drafting experience in an industrial, manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Experience creating 3D models, 2D drawings, or mechanical assemblies using SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with fabrication processes, equipment design, piping layouts, or industrial machinery.
- Understanding of GD&T, dimensioning standards, and bills of materials.
- Experience with skid-mounted equipment, modular systems, or industrial process equipment.
- Exposure to engineering change documentation, ISO 9001, or continuous improvement practices.
