Employer description

Turion is developing the critical infrastructure of the space economy. We’re doing this by building vertically integrated hardware and software: DROID, our line of space vehicles, and Starfire, our software suite covering simulation, modeling, planning, and operations. We’re a group of people who fell in love with the future sci-fi promised us, and we’re building it into reality. We build hard things. We build them well. And we’re just getting started. As part of our Electrical Engineering team, you’ll help design and build the satellites that make our missions possible.

At Turion Space, we’re building spacecraft to secure Earth and expand humanity’s reach beyond it. As part of our Electrical Engineering team, you’ll help design and build the satellites that make our missions possible.

As an Electrical Engineer at Turion Space, you will contribute to the design, integration, and testing of electrical hardware that powers our spacecraft bus and payload systems. You will work hands-on across a wide range of development stages from concept to launch. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver flight-ready electrical systems. This role requires a high level of technical curiosity, a willingness to dive into unfamiliar territory, and the drive to solve complex problems in support of critical space missions.

This is a full-time, exempt position based on-site at our Irvine, California headquarters.

 Key Responsibilities

Design and develop high reliability electrical systems and PCBs for satellite devices

Drive system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and test

Perform PCB troubleshooting and root cause analysis down to component level

Work on satellite harness definitions and fabrication processes

Prepare fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, and general documentation required for design transfer to fabrication and assembly

Maintain and update requirements and design documentation throughout the entire system life cycle

Maintain effective communication with all cross-functional groups to ensure project success

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required

2+ years of hardware development experience in PCB board design and layout and electronic system prototyping and validation

Proficiency with design tools for schematic capture

Comfortable working in the lab with oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, and logic analyzers

Demonstrates strong technical ability and creativity

Verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and interact effectively with team members and stakeholders

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret and/or a TS/SCI clearance

Preferred Qualifications

Passion for space and curiosity for electronics in high-reliability applications

Experience developing fundamentally new hardware, not just incrementally updating legacy hardware

Experience with circuit simulation tools such as LTSpice

Soldering skills on surface mount and thru-hole components

Experience with switching power supply design

Experience with system verification and validation

Embedded systems and microcontroller implementation and programming

Experience with common communication busses (I2C, SPI, UART, RS-422/485, CAN, USB, 1000BASE-T, PCIe)

Understanding of analog, high speed, and differential signal routing

Experience with high performance digital processors, FPGAs, memory chips, or network switches

Experience with circuit board design-for-manufacturability, productization of electronics
