This role enables efficient, repeatable, and certifiable workflows for avionics product development by developing and maintaining engineering tools, automation pipelines, and test infrastructure used across Systems, Software, and Hardware teams.
Team Overview
The Embedded Platform Software Tools & Enablement team develops and sustains the automation ecosystem, engineering tools, and verification capabilities that support embedded platform software across multiple avionics programs. The team focuses on delivering reliable, scalable, and certifiable tools that improve engineering efficiency and support DO-178C processes. The role requires collaboration across platform software, systems engineering, hardware/FPGA, and verification teams.
What You Will Do
Tooling and Automation Development
• Develop and maintain engineering tools and automation scripts to support embedded software development, systems workflows, hardware integration, and verification activities
• Implement tools that extract, transform, and correlate data from Git, Subversion, Jama and Jira systems
• Automate documentation and certification artifact generation required for DO‑178C traceability and reporting
• Support creation and maintenance of Linux- and container-based tooling environments
Continuous Integration and Build Infrastructure
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines in GitLab, enabling automated build, integration, and verification workflows
• Integrate third-party tools and test frameworks into CI environments
• Support build workflows using Make, CMake, or similar systems
• Improve consistency and reliability of automated build and test processes
Verification Tooling and Test Infrastructure
• Develop digital test harnesses and verification tools for embedded platform software running on simulators, virtual targets, and hardware-adjacent environments
• Build automation for test orchestration, data collection, metrics, and reporting
• Integrate verification tools with MongoDB, Grafana, and internal dashboards
Compliance-Aligned Tool Development
• Ensure tools and automation support DO‑178C objectives for reliability, determinism, and documentation
• Support tool assurance activities consistent with DO‑330 guidance
• Develop and maintain usage documentation and user support materials and provide team training
Collaboration and Support
• Work with Systems, Platform Software, Hardware/FPGA, and Verification teams to understand workflow needs and develop effective tooling solutions
• Contribute to business-unit tooling standardization and modernization initiatives
• Provide onboarding and best-practice guidance for tools and automation workflows
Required Qualifications
• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
• Experience developing engineering tools or automation using Python, with working knowledge of C and C++
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems (GitLab preferred) and Linux-based development
• Proficiency with Git or Subversion, and experience using workflow tools such as Jama and Jira
• Experience using or supporting build, test, and data systems such as Make/CMake, MongoDB, and Grafana
Preferred Qualifications
• Background supporting embedded or avionics platform software development, including understanding of low‑level, hardware‑adjacent, or platform‑level engineering workflows
• Experience working in a DO‑178C safety‑critical development environment and familiarity with DO‑330 tool qualification concepts
• Experience developing digital verification harnesses, test automation, or simulator-based tooling
• Experience with container technologies (Docker, Podman) and reproducible build processes
• Experience automating traceability, metrics, dashboards, or certification-support tooling
• Understanding of CI/CD best practices in regulated engineering environments
• Experience collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines to define or enhance tooling and automation workflows
