Employer description
Application close date:
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations.
As a Facilities Design Civil Engineer I, you will start your career designing the sites that Blue’s Florida operations are built on. You will join the Facilities Engineering Design team and support site civil design for new buildings, expansions and modifications to existing facilities, and the ongoing sustainment of site infrastructure — grading, drainage and stormwater, roads and paving, and utilities.
Working under the guidance of licensed engineers, you will do real design work from day one: running calculations, building Civil 3D models and drawings, supporting permit applications, and spending time in the field to see how designs are built and how existing infrastructure is performing.
This role is built for a new graduate or early-career engineer who has passed (or will soon pass) the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and wants a clear path to a Professional Engineer license, with mentorship, a wide range of project types, and responsibility that grows as you do.
Responsibilities· Support site civil design for new buildings and expansions, including site layout, grading and earthwork, stormwater and drainage, paving, and water, sanitary, and fire water utilities.
· Support design of site modifications and repairs for operating facilities, including drainage, pavement, and utility issues.
· Perform engineering calculations, including stormwater, grading, earthwork, and utility sizing, under the review of a licensed engineer.
· Prepare drawings, models, and exhibits using AutoCAD Civil 3D, and help assemble construction documents and specifications.
· Support site permitting by preparing calculations, exhibits, and application materials for local, state, and federal agencies.
· Gather field data, document existing conditions, and support site visits during design and construction.
· Support construction by helping review submittals and RFIs and by preparing field reports.
· Coordinate with structural, electrical, mechanical, and architectural team members on site interfaces.
· Maintain organized project files and design records.
· Pursue professional development toward a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Minimum Qualifications· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or expected by your start date).
· Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, or ability to pass within one year of hire.
· Commitment to pursuing a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
· 0–2 years of civil engineering experience; internship or co-op experience counts.
· Understanding of civil engineering fundamentals, including hydrology, hydraulics, and site grading.
· Familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications· Internship or co-op experience in site civil, land development, or infrastructure design.
· Working proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
· Exposure to stormwater or hydraulic modeling software (e.g., ICPR, WaterGEMS, HydroCAD, or equivalent).
· Familiarity with Florida stormwater and environmental permitting.
· Exposure to GIS.
· Coursework or project experience in geotechnical, transportation, or water resources engineering.
Additional Requirements· Must be able to pass a U.S. Air Force / Space Force background check for base access at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
· Work is performed in a mix of office, operating facility, and active construction environments, including launch-site areas. Occasional exposure to outdoor conditions — heat, rain, fumes, odors, and noise.
· Must be available to work extended hours as needed to support critical construction, operations, and program milestones.
· Willingness to travel to other Blue Origin sites, agencies, vendors, and contractors as required (occasional, approximately 10%).
