Employer description

At REGENT, we’re on a mission to revolutionize regional transportation between coastal cities. We’re not just building vehicles, we’re creating a new category of transportation: the Seaglider. These groundbreaking wing-in-ground-effect craft travel just above the water’s surface, combining the speed of an airplane with the low operating costs of a boat. Capable of 180 miles at 180 mph on today’s battery tech (and up to 400 miles with next-gen batteries), Seagliders will unlock fast, affordable, and sustainable coastal transit for passengers and cargo - connecting cities, islands, and communities like never before.

Backed by leading investors and powered by a team of passionate, forward-thinking engineers, builders, and operators, we’re now scaling from a breakthrough prototype to full production - and building the team to make it happen.

Role OverviewREGENT’s mechanical team is in the middle of a defining stretch of work: carrying Squire, our production Seaglider, through a full design and release cycle, while simultaneously shaping Viceroy from early concept into preliminary design. As a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op, you’ll be dropped right into both efforts — designing parts in CAD, producing drawings, and supporting release on a vehicle headed toward production, while also contributing iterative design work on a program that’s still taking shape. This isn’t an adjacent, watch-and-learn co-op experience; you’ll be trusted with real parts, real drawings, and real ownership from day one.

You’ll join Hardware Engineering’s Mechanical team, helping take Squire from prototype to production. The fast-moving team values sound judgment in early design and disciplined production execution. If you have a foundation in mechanical design and assembly complexity and want ownership of flight hardware bound for the water, this role could shape your education or launch a career building Seagliders that will reinvent coastal transportation.

What You’ll DoDesign and Release Squire Hardware: You’ll design mechanical parts in CAD and carry them through release, stepping into a production cycle where your drawings become real hardware on REGENT’s Seaglider platform. It’s the kind of direct contribution that goes well beyond a typical co-op assignment.

Help Shape Viceroy From Concept Forward: You’ll jump into Viceroy while it’s still being defined, doing the iterative CAD work that shapes a vehicle’s geometry before anything is locked in. Bring solid engineering instincts and your early ideas will hold up, not get reworked from scratch.

Draft With Precision: A large part of your time will go toward engineering drawings and tolerancing, turning design intent into documentation our team and manufacturing partners can actually build from. If you already have a good eye for drafting, this is where it gets put to work immediately.

Support Manufacturing and Integration: You’ll work alongside technicians during build and integration, helping fit checks go smoothly and feeding what you learn on the floor straight back into your CAD models. It’s a fast feedback loop that sharpens your design judgment quickly.

Own Systems End to End: You’ll take a reasonably scoped project from concept through integration, with support from senior engineers, and build toward real ownership of at least one system on the vehicle. By the end, you’ll have a portfolio of work that stands on its own, whether you’re headed back to finish school or straight into a full-time role.

What You’ll BringComfort Inside Complex Systems: Whether it came from an internship, a competition team, or a school project that got surprisingly real, you’ve worked inside assemblies where parts depend on each other. You’re used to thinking several components deep instead of in isolation.

CAD as Second Nature: You’re comfortable living in CAD day to day, not just opening it when a class requires it. Whatever your tool of choice, you pick up new CAD environments quickly.

An Eye for Drawings: You’ve spent real time with engineering drawings and tolerancing, enough to know that a good drawing is what keeps a part’s design intent alive once it leaves your screen and heads to manufacturing.

Instincts That Hold Up: You have a working sense of load paths, material choices, and how manufacturing methods shape part design. That means your early ideas are something the team can build on, not something they have to rebuild.

Steady Under Ambiguity: You’re not thrown off by incomplete information or a plan that’s still taking shape. You can make a reasonable call, move forward, and adjust as new information comes in.

A Builder’s Instinct: If you’ve spent time in a machine shop or messing around with rapid prototyping, you know the value of walking over, testing a quick fit, and bringing what you learn straight back into the model. That loop matters a lot while Viceroy is still taking shape.

Real Pull Toward Vehicles: You’re genuinely into aerospace, marine, or vehicle programs, not just checking a box for your resume. You’ll be helping shape hardware on a Seaglider headed toward production, and that should be exactly the kind of thing that gets you excited to show up.

Who We’re Looking ForCollaborative Team Player: You believe that great things happen when teams work together. You communicate effectively and collaborate with engineers, stakeholders, and other cross-functional teams to align on goals and move projects forward. You bring people together, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and moving towards a shared vision.

Creative Problem Solver: You thrive on tackling complex challenges and finding innovative solutions. Whether you’re resolving installation challenges, debugging elusive electrical issues, or adapting on the fly during integration and test, you bring a practical, inventive mindset to every problem. You don’t just patch issues - you improve processes, anticipate downstream impacts, and help turn one-off fixes into scalable solutions that raise the bar for future builds.

Adaptable & Agile: In a fast-paced, ever-evolving startup environment, you quickly adapt to changing priorities and requirements. You approach challenges with a calm, resilient mindset, and know how to pivot and adjust your approach as needed, ensuring that progress continues without missing a beat.

Innovative Mindset: You’re driven by curiosity and a passion for technology. You’re passionate about driving continuous improvement, embracing new technologies and methodologies to enhance efficiency, quality, and team performance.
