Employer description

About Standard Bots

Standard Bots is America’s largest manufacturer of AI-native industrial robots. Full-stack robots—hardware, software, and AI—all designed and assembled in Glen Cove, New York. The company makes AI-native robots anyone can buy and deploy, with customers ranging from family-owned machine shops to the Fortune 500. Customers include Sunoco, Lockheed Martin, NASA, and the U.S. Army, along with hundreds of manufacturers nationwide. Standard Bots raised a $200 million Series C at a $1 billion valuation from RoboStrategy, General Catalyst, Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund, and Samsung Next.

About the role

You’ll own how Standard Bots robots get built — from the first process design to the last improvement on the production floor. Our factory is in Glen Cove, NY, and you’ll be on it every day, so the fixture you design or the fix you make today shows up on the line tomorrow morning. The discipline we build now will define the quality and cost of every robot we ship, and you’ll help set it.

This is an individual contributor role for an engineer who wants real ownership early. You’ll report to the Manufacturing & Process Engineering Manager and work closely with product, mechanical engineering, quality, and production. As production scales, so will your scope.

📍 Location

You’ll work on-site at our factory in Glen Cove, NY, five days a week.

What you’ll do

  • Sit in DFM/DFA reviews with product and mechanical engineering and bring concrete feedback on assemblability, tolerances, and cost, not vague opinions.

  • Design, build, and validate the fixtures, tooling, and workstations used for robot assembly and test.

  • Own the process flow for your assigned assemblies, and support NPI as new products move from prototype to production.

  • Spot automation opportunities in assembly, test, and material handling, then build the case for the ones actually worth doing.

  • Drive measurable gains in yield, cycle time, and first-pass quality on the stations and lines you own.

  • Run root cause analysis on defects and nonconformances, put corrective actions in place, and verify they hold.

  • Contribute to PFMEAs and control plans, and feed what you learn on the floor back into them.

  • Use time studies, capacity analysis, and lean tools (5S/6S, standard work, value stream mapping) to cut waste.

  • Write and maintain the work instructions, routings, and BOM accuracy for your processes.

  • Track process metrics (capability, yield, cycle time) and report them weekly.

What you’ll bring

  • 3–5 years in manufacturing or process engineering in a hardware production environment.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related engineering field.

  • Hands-on production-level experience with DFM/DFA, fixture design, and process documentation.

  • CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Onshape, or similar) for fixture and tooling design.

  • Working knowledge of root cause analysis and lean or continuous improvement methods.

  • At least one quality or throughput improvement you scoped, delivered, and can put a number on.

  • Comfort on the shop floor every day, in a place where the playbook is still being written.

Nice to have

  • Background in robotics, automation hardware, or complex electromechanical assembly.

  • Exposure to scaling from low-volume prototype to higher-volume production.

  • Experience with PFMEA, control plans, or SPC.

  • Exposure to sheet metal, machined components, PCB assembly, or mixed-process manufacturing.

  • Familiarity with MES, ERP, or manufacturing data systems.

  • Basic scripting or data analysis skills (Python, SQL, or advanced Excel).

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $150,000 - $180,000, depending on experience. We are open to a variety of seniority levels for this role and will build compensation packages that are commensurate with seniority and skill level. Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Standard Bots. All Full-Time Employees are eligible for Employee Stock Options. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees.
